On Saturday October 12th the Defeat the Streets Delaware team rolled up their sleeves to volunteer at the Ashley Furio 5K/Crooked Crawl run. This annual fundraising event was held on behalf of the Children's Beach House, a 5013C organization with a mission to improve the lives of children, youth, families and communities by helping them to identify, understand, and utilize their own strengths, talents and resources. The funds raised will be directly applied to their youth Development Program.
This fundraising event was founded to honor 25-year Ashley Furio, who unexpectedly passed away about 10 years ago. Her mother, Rose Furio, wanted her name to live on in the positive way Ashley lived her life and in alignment with her passion to care for others. Ashley was a nurse. We were impressed and inspired by the love and commitment to the Children's Beach House that we felt all around us.
Our team helped register runners, handed out t-shirts, helped guide the kiddies to the Kiddie Run starting line, sold a record breaking number of 50-50 raffles and helped the buffet line flow smoothly.
The energy of the entire event was powerful and inspirational to the Defeat the Streets Delaware team.
