The defeat the streets team has been busy! Here’s what we are up to…

Volunteerism

On Saturday, June 16th our team volunteered at Encore Community Services in NYC where we prepared the packaging and labeling for the 2,000 meals the organization assembles and serves to senior citizens every day. We felt a sense of accomplishment working under the direction of the amazing and tireless Encore team to make a difference to so many in the NYC community who would not otherwise have the means to enjoy healthy, well-balanced meals. defeat the streets team members were joined by their families, friends, and youth Ambassadors

New Delaware Chapter

As we start to ramp up a second chapter in Delaware, we are getting lots of great questions. Here’s our response to one which nicely recaps our organization’s goals…

What inspired the name defeat the streets?

Our team chose the name defeat the streets since it felt powerful, evoked strong emotions in each of us and aligned with our philanthropic perspective and passion for our mission. The name  defeat the streets is a metaphor, which symbolizes important concepts that our organization aims to put into action: determination to overcome adversity; persistence in finding solutions to obstacles; a passion to make positive change; and a desire to make an impactful difference, even if, for just one person at a time.

Expanding our Ambassador Program

One of defeat the streets key areas of focus is mentoring young people and inspiring their awareness of philanthropy through our youth Ambassador program.

Our team wants to dispel the idea that ‘Philanthropy’ is only for the old, the wealthy and the famous and we want to take our Ambassador program to the next level. We want to encourage young people to broaden their perspective and awareness of the world, and we want to spark the seeds of activism, no matter the scale. This new initiative sparked our Ambassador Program motto: Change Me…Change the World.

We will share more details about the Ambassador program as it develops further.
