About Us
MISSION
We are building a new generation of compassionate humans by helping young people explore philanthropy as a way of living, relating, and engaging with the world — empowering them to care deeply, discover purpose, and create meaningful impact through everyday action.
VISION
We envision a world where philanthropy becomes part of human identity — where young people around the globe grow up seeing it as a natural expression of humanity — woven into everyday life and culture as an empowering force for connection, empathy, purpose, belonging, and positive change.
Deborah Tomasi
Founder,
Defeat the Streets
Philanthropist | Leader | Storyteller | Advocate
Born and raised in New York City, Deborah Tomasi has spent her life championing the overlooked and uplifting everyday heroes,
Her 30 years of leadership in the New York City real estate reflects a deeply rooted commitment to both professional excellence and community impact—honed through decades of navigating one of the most competitive and sophisticated markets in the profession.
As founder of Defeat the Streets, a youth-driven philanthropic initiative launched seven years ago, she has worked to reimagine philanthropy as a culture of care.
She has also served as an Adjunct Professor at NYU for over 12 years, mentoring the next generation of real estate professionals.
A storyteller at heart, Deborah is a former produced NYC playwright and the author of an upcoming debut literary novel, Stella Manhattan - the story of a 12-year old neurodivergent girl growing up in Manhattan who meets a homeless man named Circles who transforms her life. Her creative roots fuel the mission of Defeat the Streets, a youth-driven initiative that blends empathy, leadership, and action to ignite a culture of care.
She believes that consistent, small acts of giving hold the power to spark transformational change—and that when young people are empowered to lead, they can reshape communities and reimagine what philanthropy looks like.
